What we do
Beginner/Youth accepting 9 and upCurrently there is a Beginner/Youth class held on Monday with an Intermediate Class also on Monday. The Beginner classes expose the new students to the basics of the sport. They learn footwork, bladework, attacks and defensive actions and some strategy. We also enjoy some agility or skill games, conditioning and stretching. The fencers will also get some bouting time in, though in Beginner class it is all non-electric. There is loaner gear until the fencer commits, usually about two months, and then they need to obtain their own (available through club).
Intermediate is on Monday as well, for those with some foundational skills, and here, they are added to, along with more complex strategies and moves. There is a bit more bouting and at this point, everyone will have their own gear, as well as their electric gear.
Adults are welcome! You are never too old! This is on Wednesday, and beginner adults are welcome on this evening. Similar program with skills, drills and electric bouting, but because it's adults, there is a little more fast track. You don't have to be a super athlete to have fun in adult class, so don't let that stop you! There is loaner gear until the fencer commits, usually about two months, and then they need to obtain their own (available through club).
Friday is Open Fencing! It is highly recommended that once a fencer has a decent foundation to come and experience bouts with everyone, young, old, skilled, not so skilled. This is what makes you better. Here, all are welcome, some fence with non electric, but in Open Fencing, everyone has their own gear.
Summer Camp Every July it's a week of fencing camp. Beginners and experienced are both welcome. A lot of fun with a whole day of fencing and fencing-related activities! Attendance is limited.
The history of club
Treasure Coast Fencing Academy was founded here in Port St Lucie by Ken Moran, a coach who loved the sport and wanted to share it with everyone he met. His passion about fencing and his caring and thoughtful coaching made him a champion of the sport; he touched all who he met, in a wonderful way. That all started around 2003, and unfortunately, Coach Ken died in 2015. The club carried on, keeping his legacy alive. Today, it is wonderful to see fencers who learned with Coach Ken still coming to club, as well as many new students coming to learn. It's all because of him this club exists.
